Statistics Term 2

Level 3 Learning Outcomes:
- gain information from a variety of data displays.
- be aware of the type of data each display is appropriate for and the kind of pattern/relationship it best communicates.
- link others’ claims with the appropriateness of displays used.

Level 4 Learning Outcomes:
- consider features of others’ statistical investigations including appropriateness of sampling methods, quality of data collection, data collection and the extent to which evidence supports claims.

Gathering and Analysing Data:
How long does it take for each Group 5 student to do 20-star jumps?

My Data:
17, 13, 14, 11, 13, 14, 13, 14, 16, 11, 14, 13, 13, 12, 15, 13, 13, 12, 15, 12,
Analysing my data:
Smallest to biggest - 11, 11, 12, 12, 12, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 14, 14, 14, 14, 15, 15, 16, 17.
2 11's, 3 12's, 7 13's, 4 14's, 2 15's, 1 16 and 1 17.

The fastest time was: 11

The slowest time was: 17

Range: 17 - 11 = 6

Mode: most common was 13

Median: 13/13

Mean: 268 divided by 20 = 13.4

The combined time: 268

READING OTHERS INVESTIGATIONS:

The information I have gathered from this graph is: In 2000 the bear population in Emerald Forest was at 40 but as the years went by the population grew and grew. In 2006 was the highest population with 140 bears. It started off at 40 in 2000 then went to 50, then 70, then 120, grew to 130, stayed the same in 2005 and lastly skipped 10 to 140. I noticed that sometimes the population of bears stayed the same or went straight up 50. That means more and more bears evolved by 2006.

The information I have gathered from this graph is: Cats are the most popular pets with a population of 11. Dogs are a little bit behind cats and are the 2nd most popular animal with a population of 8. Goldfish are the 3rd with 6, Hamsters are the 4th with 5 and Rabbits are the last most popular pet with a small population of 4. Cats might be the most loved pets because they lower your stress levels and are nice, calm, gentle animals. They also don't require as much effort you have to put in for dogs. Also, Cats and dogs are the most related family pet.

The information I have gathered from this graph is: People who are 34 - 45+ they are obviously not a teenager anymore and might have a relation to classical music which is normally older music but is very calm, catchy and enchanting to listen to. It is a great magical feel. Teens are probably not as keen to this type of music because normally they are interested in pop because it is newer music. I would expect that females would enjoy this type of music more because they might be more into jazz but it is males only by 3. I am surprised that 35 - 44 ages don't enjoy this type of music that much.

The information I have gathered from this graph is: I can already tell that the Coke Classic is the favourite out of all the drinks with 35%. Pepsi-Cola is the 2nd most popular just behind the Coke Classic with a percentage of 26. Diet Coke is 3rd with a percentage of 16 and Dr Peppar is 12% while Sprite is following behind Dr Peppar with the least common favourite percentage. I think that Coke classic is the most favourite because it has been enjoyed since 1886 because of its flavour.

  1. Breanna, I like the way you have used your statistics knowledge to analyse each graph. You have been able to describe which each graph is displaying. You are currently working within the curriculum expectations. Your next step is to investigate sampling methods.
